The less routine the more life

This morning I did something radical: I chose a different Pilates reformer.
I know, I know – hardly groundbreaking. But here’s the thing: for months I’ve been gravitating to the exact same machine, taking the same route to the studio, even favoring the same instructors. Pure autopilot.

It reminded me of my old Long Island Railroad commute days, watching people claim the exact same platform spot and train seat, day after day, year after year. I get it – it’s comfortable, familiar, easy.
But that’s exactly the problem.

When we’re on autopilot, we’re not really choosing. We’re just… existing.
Today’s different reformer gave me a new view, different lighting, even a slightly different temperature. Same workout, completely fresh experience. All because I made one intentional choice instead of defaulting to habit.

Here’s what I’m thinking about: How many areas of our work and life are we sleepwalking through? What small, intentional choice could shake us awake today?

Maybe it’s taking a different route to work, speaking up in that meeting, or finally having that career conversation you’ve been putting off.

The magic isn’t in the big dramatic changes – it’s in choosing consciousness over comfort, even in the smallest moments.
