Waiting for the Lightning Bolt

I spent years waiting for some stroke of genius to hit me and help me figure out what I wanted to do with my life. I honestly thought I’d wake up one day and it would hit me like a ton of bricks. That day never came.

I was really comfortable. I loved the company I worked for and the people I worked with. But the work itself? It wasn’t lighting me up anymore. I’d sit in meetings thinking “Is this it? Is this what I’m supposed to be excited about for the next 10+ years?”

I did tons of online tests to assess my skill set, my personality type and what other careers would be a fit. StrengthsFinder, Myers-Briggs, every “What Career is Right for You?” quiz I could find. I even had well-meaning friends and mentors tell me to “follow my passion” (eye roll). But none of it felt just right.

What I learned: it doesn’t come to you magically in a dream (too bad). It takes real introspection, time, and often someone to help you see what you can’t see yourself. And when I finally started asking the right questions—the ones I didn’t even know to ask—I got clear on what I wanted (and not what I thought I should want). Easy change tools don’t solve hard change problems.

If you’re stuck waiting for your epiphany, let’s talk.
